Expand your mind in a fun & challenging setting

Our GERRIC for Gifted Students program is offered to gifted and talented students (students who can perform in the top 10% of their age-peers) in Years 3-10 at Australian primary, middle or secondary school. This is a school holiday program that expands the minds of bright, inquisitive individuals looking for an intellectual challenge that is more demanding and more fun than they may sometimes experience at school.

GERRIC Student Programs open a student's mind to abilities they may not have known they possess. At »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ, gifted students meet others who share their interests and they are taught by educators who love working in this field. Our programs are offered on the »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ campus and give students the opportunity to work on a small project.

From the Director, Professor Jae Jung

As the Director of GERRIC, I am proud of the role that the GERRIC Student Programs have played in supporting gifted students from around Australia and different parts of the world for more than three decades. Offered to gifted students in Years 3 to 10, our face-to-face and online programs are designed to offer challenge and intellectual stimulation to gifted students that is often not available in schools. Simultaneously, our programs are designed to offer a good opportunity for gifted students to work and socialise with other gifted students with similar interests and abilities. Among the wide-ranging program topics that we have offered over the years are brain sciences, virtual reality, mythical fantasy, cosmology, machine learning, wired writing, cinematic sounds, psychology and cryptology.

Some well received recent innovations that we have introduced to the programs include parent information sessions, and tours of scientific laboratories at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ (including the High Voltage Lab, the Fibre Fabrication Lab and the Anechoic Chambers). We hope to continue these initiatives in the future. I am also delighted to see that many of the past participants of the GERRIC Student Programs have continued their relationship with GERRIC, by returning to the programs in various capacities, including as student volunteers and presenters. One of the past participants, who incidentally completed a PhD in astrophysics at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ, and worked in the School of Physics and New College at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ, came to speak at a parent information session for the GERRIC Student Programs in 2024. I myself was a student volunteer at programs 20 years ago in 2005.
