As the CEO of , a private cyber incident response and cyber defence company company, Matt O'Kane leads a dedicated team of professionals who deliver cyber emergency response (incident response), digital forensics and cyber security services to clients worldwide. Over the past five years, he has directed responses to more than 70 cyber breaches and insider threat investigations, which has afforded him a unique perspective on the cybersecurity landscape.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Matt O'Kane is an Assistant Course Convenor for »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ School of Business (in IT and cyber) and a Casual Academic at the University of New South Wales, Canberra. There, Matt teaches the Cyber Security Bootcamp, digital forensics, and cyber resilience. Matt O'Kane also collaborates with »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Law Edge (Sydney).

Finally, Matt O'Kane is a guest volunteer lecturer (via the Save Sight Institute) at the University of Sydney (Sydney School of Medicine) on the impacts of blindness, helping doctors learn about how to manage chronic disability conditions.

UNSomnia Presenter (2024), »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Centre for Ideas

The »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Centre for Ideas presents a thought-provoking program of events and digital content, bringing the globe's leading thinkers to »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Sydney and showcasing »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ's expertise to the world.

I was selected as a presenter for UNSOMNIA, a highly competitive professional development program that trains »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ academics, researchers, and PhD students in high-performance presentation skills. The program provides a platform to showcase ideas to the world through high-production events and publicity. The program represents a significant commitment of resources by »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ into 9 presenters like myself.

As a presenter, I will deliver my take on strategies to enhance cyber education in Australia at a TED-like event in October 2024, followed by a »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ-supported media campaign. My presentation will focus on integrating cyber security concepts into primary, secondary, and tertiary education curricula, as well as promoting public awareness campaigns.

I am not a researcher, I am a practitioner who provides expertise to assist »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Canberra (School of Professional Studies), »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Sydney (»Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Business School) and other education institutions.

I am happy to consider research ideas, or information on current industry practice.
