
Associate Professor Shing Wong

Associate Professor Shing Wong has served as a Clinical Academic at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ and as a Colorectal/ General Surgeon at Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) since 2005.Ìý He is the head of the Colorectal Unit at POWH.Ìý He completed his Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery with honours at University of Sydney in 1992, the General Surgical Fellowship in 2002, and the Australasian Post-fellowship Colorectal Training Program in 2004.Ìý In 2007, he completed both his Masters of Surgery (Colorectal Surgery) at University of Sydney and Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ.Ìý He completed his PhD on Ergonomics in Robotic Colorectal Surgery at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ in 2025.Ìý In 2025, he was appointed as Head of Discipline of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Health, »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ.
Associate Professor Shing Wong is enthusiastic about teaching, supervision and training, clinical work and clinical research.Ìý He has been awarded "Best Consultant Clinical Teacher" at POWH thirteen times.Ìý He was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning" prize by the Faculty of Medicine in 2007.Ìý He is the Course Convenor responsible for the »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Phase 3 MFAC3502 Surgery Course and the Surgery Moodle site.Ìý He participated in the »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Course Enhancement Program in 2022 and the »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Course Design Instiitute workshop in 2024.Ìý He has served as the co-Director of Prevocational Education and Training (DPET) and the Director of Assistants in Medicine (DAiM) during the COVID-19 pandemic at POWH.Ìý He performed the first robotic case at Prince of Wales Private Hospital in October 2018 and has completed over 300 robotic colorectal surgery cases.

The focus of Associate Professor Shing Wong's research is on Clinical Surgery.Ìý His main areas of research involve Ergonomics, Robotic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Colonoscopy, Acute Care Surgery and Recto-vaginal endometriosis.Ìý He has served as an Academic Editor for Minimally Invasive Surgery, MedRobot,Ìýand Cancers;Ìýand has reviewed multiple manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
